Tribal and federal authorities are investigating the death of a 16-year-old on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
Apollo Blaze White Calf, 16, died at a hospital on Saturday evening after being shot in the face earlier in the day. Alcohol was apparently involved, according to a Bureau of Indian Affairs criminal investigator.
A 14-year-old juvenile who was at the scene was questioned and detained for several hours before being released, the investigator said. The teen reportedly told investigators that White Calf shot himself in the face.
