Hogan at Navajo Prep catches fire but one hurt

A hogan at Navajo Preparatory School in New Mexico caught fire on Thursday but no one was injured, The Farmington Daily Times reports.

The fire started at around 11am yesterday when a staff member was preparing for a Navajo culture class in the hogan. The students were going to do some cooking on a wood stove and a propane stove in the hogan.

The fire started after the staff member left the hogan but no students were inside at the time. Students at the school were evacuated from their classrooms as the blaze was put out. The hogan suffered extensive damage.

Navajo Prep is located off the reservation in Farmington. It is part of the Bureau of Indian Affairs system.
