A judge in Michigan has dismissed a lawsuit that sought to close 32 charter schools that were authorized by a tribal college.

The Bay Mills Community College, the tribal college of the Bay Mills Indian Community, opened the charter schools under the public school system. The schools receive state funds.

The Michigan Education Association challenged the schools, saying they can't be operated by a "private" entity. But the judge said the association lacked standing.

The tribe's charter schools educate more than 10,000 students.
