The Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota Tribe of South Dakota is still dealing with the effects of a winter storm that hit the reservation last week.
The tribe set up a number of shelters but didn't have enough space for everyone. The tribe tried to put the elderly and disabled in hotel rooms but the planning director said one elderly woman spent five days in a shelter before getting a room.
Chairman J.C. Crawford said the tribe hopes to be better prepared the next time. "Our tragedy is that our whole reservation was affected all at once," he told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader.
The Yankton Sioux Tribe and the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe were also hard hit by the storm.
