Old air force land transferred to San Manuel Band

It only took 10 years, but the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians has finally acquired 18 acres of the former Norton Air Force Base in California.

The land was signed over to the tribe in a ceremony on Tuesday. "This has been a long time coming," vice chairman Henry Duro, who was chairman when the process was started, was quoted as saying.

The tribe plans to develop the land, which is part of its ancestral territory.
