A new Lakota film group has been created to promote the film industry in South Dakota and to help protect Indian people who work on movie sets.
The Lakota Film and Television Group has about 30 members and is being chaired by Moses Brings Plenty, who has appeared in a number of productions. He says the group wants to improve conditions for Indian workers and develop a database of Indian actors and workers.
Brings Plenty and his agent, Karla LaRive, said Indian workers can be exploited due to lack of written agreements on movie sets. Mark Lone Hill, an Indian re-enactor, said a film crew for a recent the History Channel documentary failed to live up to promised made to Indian actors.
