Martin Anthony "Marty" George, a member of the Grande Ronde Tribes of Oregon, was shot and killed by police on Monday afternoon.

George, 36, was an employee of Smoke Signals, the tribal newspaper. According to The McMinnville News-Register, he was struggling with a methamphetamine addiction.

George has a history of criminal activity and run-ins with the police. Five years ago, he allegedly confronted officers with a crossbow before being subdued.

In Monday's incident, police followed George, believing he may have stolen a vehicle. When they tried to block him in, he allegedly raced the car towards two officers who were standing on the ground. The officers opened fire on George, killing him.
