The Minnesota American Indian Chamber of Commerce is being presented with an award from the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits.
The chamber is being honored for its work to get out the vote as part of the Native Vote 2002 initiative. "MAICCs unprecedented work had a significant impact; some estimates show that as a result of MAICCs efforts, American Indian voter participation in Minnesota increased as much as 150 percent," the council said.
The chamber was founded 19 years ago and is considered to be the oldest Indian organization of its kind in the nation.
