The Din Sacred Mountain Motorcycle Run takes place this weekend to honor of the sacred mountains and raise awareness of the fight to protect San Francisco Peaks in Arizona.
The ride begins at 7am this morning near Huerfano, New Mexico. Riders will travel to each of the four sacred mountains before ending Monday 10am at the Navajo Nation Council Chambers in Window Rock, Arizona.
The Navajo Nation is taking part in a lawsuit to protect the San Francisco Peaks, one of the sacred mountains. A coalition of tribes is trying to stop the expansion of a ski area in the peaks, saying the use of reclaimed wastewater to make show desecrates their religion.
The U.S. Forest Service approved the Snowbowl expansion project despite objections from the tribes. A full trial begins on Monday.
