The Stanford University Law School will be offering its first Indian law class at the prodding of Indian students.

Colin Sampson, a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, is a third-year law student. He has been pushing the school to offer a course since last year. The Native American Law Students Association has supported the effort.

"Federal Indian Law" will now be offered starting next semester. It will be taught by adjunct professor Joe Flies-Away, a member of the Hualapai Tribe of Arizona, has served as a judge for several tribes.
