National
Native American Day held in South Dakota

The state of South Dakota celebrated Native American Day on Monday, the replacement holiday for Columbus Day.

The Multi-Cultural Center of Sioux Falls held a powwow and resource fair to mark the occasion. About 1,000 people attended the event.

At the Crazy Horse Memorial, students heard from Phillip Whiteman, a Cheyenne storyteller and dancer from Montana, and Theodore Gull, a astrophysicist from the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. Whiteman and Gull encouraged the students to be proud of their heritage.
