A teenager on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota was struck and killed by a tribal police vehicle on Monday, September 26, The Rapid City Journal reports.
Gilbert. L. Thunder Horse Jr., 17, was struck as he was lying in road. He was hit by a tribal police officer who was responding to an unrelated traffic stop.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs, the tribe and the South Dakota Highway Patrol are investigating the incident. The officer was placed on administrative leave but has since returned to duty, the paper said.
