The first Native American Law Enforcement Summit is being held in Minnesota this week.

The conference will provide training on issues affecting law enforcement in Indian Country. The agenda includes state-tribal jurisdiction, gangs, substance abuse and contraband cigarettes [Link].

Bill Blake, a Minneapolis police sergeant and member of the Red Lake Nation, took the initiative in organizing the summit. He lost a daughter to violence on a reservation in Wisconsin.

The conference takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Mille Lacs Ojibwe casino/hotel in Hinckley.
