The Fort Peck Tribes in Montana declared a state of emergency on Thursday after state authorities confirmed that anthrax killed 37 cows on the reservation.
The anthrax only affected a single herd on one ranch but officials are taking precautions to make sure it doesn't affect humans or animals. The ranch is located in a popular hunting area.
The dead cows were buried in deep pits and covered with lye. The remaining 210 cows from the herd were isolated, with some being treated with antibiotics and vaccine.
