Tigua Tribe watches excavation of ancient pueblo

The Tigua Tribe of Texas is being consulted about the excavation of an ancient pueblo on land owned by the U.S. military.

Tribal leaders say the site was home to their ancestors. They visited the pueblo last week to determine if there were any burial grounds or sacred items they might want to repatriate.

The 11-room pueblo was occupied between A.D. 1300 and A.D. 1450, archaeologists say. It was home to about 10 to 30 people, lead archaeologist Myles Miller said.

The site is located on property owned by Fort Bliss Army base.
