Archaeologists hail discovery at state work site

Archaeologists in Washington say they are excited to find a seasonal tribal camp that dates to the time of the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Further studies are pending but the site was likely used by members of the Chinook Nation. Items found there suggests trading with Europeans.

The discovery halted work on a road construction project. The tribe, which lacks federal recognition, is being contacted.
