The Morongo Band of Mission Indians helped the city of Banning, California, obtain a grant for a business beautification program.
The tribe sponsored the city's application for matching-grant funds from the tribal-state gaming compact. The city received $67,817 so that businesses can improve the appearance of their buildings.
California tribes with casinos contribute about $130 million a year to a state fund that helps non-gaming tribes and local communities.
