Reservation bottling plant blamed for water drop

A water bottling plan on the Morongo Reservation in California is being blamed for a drop in well levels.

The Morongo Band of Mission Indians bought water rights to two natural springs for $2.9 million. The tribe then welcomed the Arrowhead plant to the reservation.

But officials in nearby Cabazon say water levels in 24 wells nearest to the plant each dropped about 24 feet. The water district has ordered a study to determine the exact cause.

However, some experts say wells throughout the region have dropped due to an ongoing drought.
