Oglala Sioux Tribe lays off temporary workers

The Oglala Sioux Tribe in South Dakota has laid off 17 temporary employees due to a budget shortfall.

Vice President Alex White Plume Sr. said the tribe wouldn't have been able to make payroll unless it got rid of the workers. The tribe has a $35 million budget for 85 federal programs, he said.

The employees were in the Tribal Employment Rights Office and the Economic Development Office. They will be brought back if more funding is obtained.
