Montana tribes brace for severe winter weather

Montana's tribes prepared themselves for the worst as severe winter temperatures hit the state on Wednesday.

The Blackfeet Reservation is expected to experience some of the most severe conditions. The tribe, the county and the Bureau of Indian Affairs established an emergency response center at tribal headquarters to prepare for power outages and look out for the elderly, the young and others in need.

School was closed and employees were sent home on the Fort Peck Reservation yesterday. Customers flocked to stores to stock up on supplies.

Temperatures are expected to dip as low as 36 below zero in some areas.
