Several Washington tribes plan to negotiate tobacco compacts with the state in the coming year.
So far 17 of the state's 29 tribes have reached agreements that require them to impose an amount equivalent to the state tax. The tribes are able to keep a portion of the revenues for government services.
The Puyallup Tribe is the latest to negotiate a compact. The deal doesn't require an amount equivalent to the state tax but the tribe is required to share 30 percent revenues with the state.
Eight more tribes are in negotiations or have asked to negotiate compacts.
