The keynote speaker at the Fallon-Paiute Shoshone Tribe's birthday bash for elders is a Republican candidate for Nevada's 2nd Congressional district.
Dawn Gibbons is hoping to attract reservation voters as she makes her bid for U.S. Congress in 2006. She hopes to replace her husband, Rep. Jim Gibbons (R-Nevada), who plans to run for state governor in 2006.
Jim Gibbons is controversial among Shoshone people for sponsorship of a bill to distribute a $130 million trust fund to members of the Western Shoshone Nation. The bill became law last year amid objections from some Shoshone leaders and activists.
The birthday bash takes place on Thursday at the tribe's senior center.
