Native vets seek recognition for Korean service

The First Nations Korea War Veterans Association held its first official annual gathering in Saskatchewan this week.

Hundreds of Natives fought in the war but have not been recognized for their service. When they returned home, they were denied benefits afforded to all other soldiers.

Veterans Affairs Canada is trying to provide more benefits to Natives but some veterans say it isn't enough. About 1,200 Natives have received compensation but more than 600 claims have been denied.
