"Winner joined a growing list of South Dakota communities forced to face its race problems, after the American Civil Liberties Union recently filed a discrimination suit.
In Winner's case, the ACLU says Native American students are disciplined more often and more harshly than white students.
However the lawsuit is resolved, Winner can learn some lessons from other communities about how to bring people together.
It's not easy. But it's not impossible, either - as long as everyone involved understands it's a long-term commitment."
