Former chairwoman up for challenge in election

Wendy Schlater, a former chairwoman of the La Jolla Band of Mission Indians, says she is ready for the challenge of running against a Republican county supervisor.

Schlater, a Democrat, says she is upset that San Diego County Supervisor Bill Horn has been ignoring the tribe. She hopes to change that by unseating Horn in the 2006 election.

Horn has held the seat for 11 years but Schlater isn't worried. "I love challenges," she told The North County Times. "In the end the people will vote and choose who they want."
