Canada's Supreme Court to issue logging decision

The Supreme Court of Canada is expected to issue a decision today in two Native logging rights cases.

Native loggers from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are seeking the right to harvest timber under 18th century treaties. They say Natives have a right to make a living off Crown land.

The government prosecuted the loggers for harvesting timber in violation of federal laws. A similar stance had been taken in a fishing case but the Supreme Court sided with Natives.
