Fifty-one candidates have filed for nine open seats on the Mohegan Tribe's council, The Norwich Bulletin reports.
The Connecticut tribe sent out absentee ballots to narrow the field down to 18 candidates. A final election will be held in early August.
All but one council incumbent is seeking re-election.
