The Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota has secured more than $2 million in federal money to start a bus service for the second-largest reservation in the U.S.

With the reservation covering 4,400 square miles, more than twice the size of the state of Delaware, tribal officials say there is great need for the service. Due to the lack of public or affordable transportation, some tribal members up hitch-hiking or walking long distances to get to work or shop for groceries.

The money will be used to buy 10 buses and two vans and to build a bus terminal. The tribe is seeking sponsors for bus shelters.
