The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island is seeking more study at a work site where two graves have been uncovered.
The tribe believes the graves could contain the remains of Narragansett ancestors. Other evidence of a tribal settlement have been found.
State law doesn't require further study when graves are discovered, The Providence Journal reported. Local governments can proceed with work as long as the graves aren't disturbed, a state archaeologist said.
