Representatives of Montana's tribes shared their culture and history with hundreds of people on the opening day of the "Explore the Big Sky" event in Great Falls.
An estimated 300 people attended the Plains Indian Encampment, which features villages representing each of the state's tribes. Another 300 participated in the International Traditional Games.
"Explore the Big Sky" is a signature event of the National Lewis & Clark Bicentennial commemoration. It runs through Sunday and features a three-day powwow, a concert with Rita Coolidge, Jack Gladstone and the Black Lodge Singers, a market with tribal artists and a symposium on Indian issues.
