Liberal and conservative groups are preparing campaigns in order to quickly shape public opinion within hours of a potential U.S. Supreme Court nomination.
No one knows whether there will be a vacancy on the court, much less who might be tapped as a replacement. But the conservative Progress for America plans to spend $18 million to boost President Bush's choice. Likewise, the liberal People for the American Way has established a "war room" to inform thousands of supporters about the nominee's record.
The high court ended its term on Monday with decisions in some high-profile cases. The court issued a small order list yesterday as its final act of the October 2004 term.
