Agua Caliente Band reopens canyon to visitors

More than three decades after closing Tahquitz Canyon due to vandalism, misuse and trespassing, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians has reopened the prized hiking spot to the public.

Hikers can visit the canyon after paying a $12.50 entrance fee. Guided tours by the tribe are also offered.

The tribe spent 30 years cleaning up the canyon, which was overrun by young people in the 1960s.
