A Native woman from the Shamattawa First Nation in Manitoba was found frozen to death after drinking large amounts of alcohol and inhaling solvents, authorities in Thompson said.

The death of Corrine Beardy, 27, has some worried that city isn't doing enough to combat substance abuse among people from nearby First Nations who visit Thompson. Some come to drink because their reserves are dry.

The RCMP in Thompson made picked up 2,562 people for intoxication last year, more than 32 times the rate in Winnipeg, the Manitoba's capital and largest city.
