The Chippewa Cree Tribe of Montana and the city of Havre met in a joint council session on Tuesday and pledged to work together on common issues.

Participants said the main topics of the meeting were cooperation, economic development and job creation. The tribe and the city agreed to consider reviving the Native American Affairs Committee, an effort that includes the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Belknap Indian Community.

Tribal leaders said they wanted to ensure tribal members obtain jobs at a proposed Wal-Mart in Havre. Mayor Bob Rice promised to include the tribe in discussions.
