The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe of Nevada paid tribute to its veterans in a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday.
The tribe held a potluck dinner to honor tribal members who have served in wars. Special focus this year was made to Vietnam and Iraq war veterans. Among those in attendance was Mark Mix Jr., a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, who has served two tours of duty in Iraq.
The tribe dedicated portions of two state highways for two Vietnam veterans: John Aleck, a Marine killed in action who received a Purple Heart, and Ronald Smith, an Army soldier who died in 1999 after receiving a Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
