A member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes who was murdered on the Flathead Reservation in Montana was given a posthumous diploma on Sunday.
Catherine Madplume, 20, was a senior at Two Eagle River School, an alternative tribal high school on the reservation. She was shot and killed on February 3 along with Gerald Sirucek, 20, a student at Salish Kootenai College, the tribal college.
Madplume's mother, Carolyn, is a member of the Salish and Kootenai Tribes. She accepted the diploma from the school. Madplume's father is a member of the Blackfeet Nation.
