Villaraigosa elected new mayor of Los Angeles

Democrat Antonio Villaraigosa won a landslide victory in the Los Angeles, California, mayoral run-off on Wednesday, making him the city's first Hispanic leader in more than a century.

Villaraigosa captured all segments of the vote in his second bid for the mayor's office. He defeated one-term incumbent Mayor James K. Hahn, a Democrat, with nearly 59 percent of the vote.

Los Angeles County is home to the largest urban Indian population in the United States.
