The finances of the Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin are "very good" despite a recent report warning of bankruptcy, president George Lewis told The Wisconsin State Journal.
Lewis said the tribe is taking steps to address concerns raised by a recent audit. But one measure -- cutting per capita payments by 30 percent -- has angered tribal members who accuse leaders like Lewis of mismanagement.
The report said the tribe ran up a $104 million deficit last year. The tribe operates a Class III casino and a bingo hall.
