Man pleads not guilty in Blackfeet-related murder

A 29-year-old man pleaded not guilty to the murder of Fernandel Omeasoo Jr., the 17-year-old grandson of the late Blackfeet spiritual leader George Kicking Woman, The Great Falls Tribune reports.

Shannon Bullplume, 29, is charged with deliberate homicide. Police say he stabbed Omeasoo to death at a party in Cut Bank, a town near the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana.

Omeasoo and his family were on the reservation to attend Kicking Woman's funeral. He was killed Friday, April 22, at the off-reservation party.

Bullplume's girlfriend, Richelle DeRoche, 20, was also charged with deliberate homicide but the judge dismissed the charge. She still faces misdemeanor counts of assault and disorderly conduct.
