School could be named for late Skokomish leader

Among the five names selected as finalists for a new public school in Washington is Subiyay, the Indian name of the late Skokomish spiritual leader Bruce Miller.

Miller died in February at the age of 60. He was nationally recognized artist who maintained the Skokomish Tribe's history and traditions.

Some tribal members wanted the new school to be named for Robert Satiacum, the late chief of the Puyallup Tribe. But the Federal Way School Board rejected this as a possible choice.
