A South Dakota city has repudiated a law that allegedly allowed anyone to "fire upon" a group of three or more Indians.

Spearfish Mayor Jerry Krambeck said there is no evidence the law actually existed. Several web sites [Dumb South Dakota Laws] claim that the city has an ordinance stating, "If three or more Indians are walking down the street together, they can be considered a war party and fired upon."

Nevertheless, Krambeck said it was necessary to issue a proclamation repudiating the law. The proclamation was issued as part of Indian Awareness Week at Black Hills State University in Spearfish.
