A revered public safety officer for the Alaska Native village of Russian Mission was laid to rest on Wednesday in a funeral attended by more than 30 law enforcement colleagues.
Simeon Askoak, 30, was remembered as an extremely dedicated public servant. He kept paying the bills to keep his office up and running despite a lack of state money. He feared the program was going to have to shut down entirely.
Askoak committed suicide last week.
