The Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana is moving forward with efforts to take over law enforcement duties from the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The tribal council voted unanimously to seek a self-determination contract for law enforcement.
President Eugene Little Coyote said the goal is more accountability.
The tribe is starting the process with a request for information on descriptions and salaries for positions related to law enforcement. A contract will then be prepared.
