The Hopi Tribe of Arizona will be forced to cut up to 35 percent of its budget if a generating station in Nevada closes, chairman Wayne Taylor Jr. said.
The Mohave Generating Station is set to close at the end of the year due to environmental concerns. If that happens, two Peabody Coal mines that supply 600 jobs and millions in revenue to the tribe will shut down. The Peabody mines are the only suppliers of coal to the generating station.
Taylor said the Hopi Tribe has already reduced its budget due to a slowdown in activity at the mines.
