A ceremony on the Table Bluff Reservation in California was held in honor of
Cheryl Seidner, the chairwoman of the Wiyot Tribe of California.
Seidner was hailed for her public service to the tribe and the 1st Assembly District, where she was named Woman of the Year. "She serves as a wonderful role model for any young woman who wants to help make this world a better place," Assemblywoman Patty Berg said, The Eureka Reporter reported.
Seidner was instrumental in the recent return of a sacred site on Indian Island, considered the center of the Wiyot universe. She works for the Humboldt State University Educational Opportunity Program and is on the board of directors for KEET-TV.
"Her peaceful spirit has led to a beautiful reconciliation and now we look forward to the Wiyots future development on Indian Island," The Eureka Reporter said in an editorial.
