Tribes battle gas company over sacred site along river

Tribes on the California-Arizona border say a gas company's treatment plant is harming a sacred site along the Colorado River.

The Topock Maze, a series of rock formations, is on the National Register of Historical Places. It was used by warriors for purification ceremonies and is considered a portal into heaven by the Fort Mojave Tribe.

Currently the site, also called the Mystic Maze, is being blocked by Pacific Gas & Electric Co. treatment plant, so the tribe wants it moved. Officials in Arizona also say the facility poses a threat to groundwater.
