First Nation in Manitoba nears federal recognition

A Cree community in Manitoba is nearing federal recognition as a First Nation in Canada.

The South Indian Lake community is on track to sign an agreement with provincial and federal officials on April 1. If that happens, the community will become the 63rd First Nation in the province.

Some local residents, including some Metis, are concerned about the deal. They say they haven't been consulted.
