The Blackfeet Nation is negotiating an agreement to cross-deputize Glacier County police officers to patrol the Montana reservation.
The tribe wants more police presence on the reservation, said Chairman William "Allen" Talks About. A series of public meetings will be held to discuss cross-deputization.
The tribe's police force was taken over by the Bureau of Indian Affairs amid complaints of mismanagement, harassment and nepotism. The tribe wants to resume the force but lacks adequate funding.
