The Tse' Bit' Ai' Middle School on the Navajo Nation is celebrating Native American Week for the first time in several years.
A host of educators, artists, performers and dance groups are visiting the school, located in Shiprock, New Mexico. The lineup includes Wilfred Billie, a Navajo Code Talker, and Navajo comedian/singer Vincent Craig.
Vernon Willie, mathematics chairman at San Juan College, impressed students yesterday by connecting Navajo knowledge to math. Tim Washburn told students how he overcame low self-esteem and a troubled family life to become a successful sculptor.
The week's events conclude on Friday with a concert by Craig and Margo Hulsey.
