A retired Capuchin Franciscan friar revered among the Northern Cheyenne Tribe is speaking at Haskell Indian Nations University this week.
Rev. Emmett Hoffmann arrived at the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana in 1954. He spent more than 30 years there, working at the St. Labre Indian School.
Hoffman, often called the "Renegade Priest," dedicated himself to reducing poverty on the reservation. He founded the Soaring Eagle charity and raised millions for the school and the community. He also led efforts for a $6 million assisted living facility.
